How Optify Helped a Leading Public Policy Nonprofit Expand Coaching Across All Levels

Challenge

A nationally respected  public policy non-profit understood the power of coaching, but like many organizations, it had limited coaching to a small group of senior leaders due to cost. 

Meanwhile, its mid-level leaders participated in a year-long development program with workshops built around Harvard ManageMentor® content. Each cohort of 30 leaders gained knowledge and frameworks, but translating those lessons into daily leadership practice remained a challenge. 

The organization wanted to scale coaching to this broader group—without overwhelming internal resources. After discovering Optify’s scalable coaching services, the organization decided to introduce leadership coaching to their mid-level leadership development program to help leaders integrate what they had learned from the group workshops and content, to great success.

Solution 

At the close of the leadership program, each participant was paired with an Optify coach for six months of targeted, one-on-one development. Coaches were equipped with 360 feedback results and aligned to the program content, helping leaders: 

  • Set clear goals 
  • Apply workshop learning directly to their roles 
  • Build new habits and leadership behaviors 

The coach has access to the participant’s 360 results and is familiar with the content of the LDP.  They meet over the course of six months, setting clear goals to reinforce the learning content, apply it to the participant’s specific needs, and develop new behaviors and habits.

Behind the scenes, Optify’s platform powered the program—tracking progress, keeping participants engaged, and providing visibility to the L&D team. Program Managers ensured everything ran smoothly, while the nonprofit’s internal team stayed focused on other priorities.As the organization’s Senior Manager of Talent Development has said, “We’re advancing leadership development with fewer internal resources than we otherwise would.”

  • Higher levels of employee engagement among the participants.
  • Reported progress in critical skills: execution, self-management, career growth, people leadership, relationship building, and strategic focus. 
  • 82% of participants reported improved internal communication and relationships as a result of coaching. 

Satisfaction

Participants have given the coaches in the program an incredible Net Promoter Score of 95, and the program as a whole a Net Promoter Score of 91.
